Cap Talk: Whats on Your Mind Feat. Notes To Self

At NECTalk, we have seen many dope New Era collaboration caps from hip hop artists. One group that has always impressed us with their hat drops is Toronto-based Notes To Self, a crew which consists of rappers Swamp Donkey & Roshin, producer/rapper Bronze One, DJ Dopey and illustrator Eliscer. Notes To Self have worked and toured with many legendary hip hop artists, including De La Soul, Talib Kweli and Dilated Peoples. On February 26th 2013, they released their latest project ‘Target Market RECOIL.’ In support of the album, the group dropped their New Era Cap collection entitled “OFFSAFETY OFFSEASON,” due to demand from their fans. We recently caught up with Notes To Self – who are well-known to rock “A fresh 59FIFTY with the hat brim flat” – to see what’s on their mind.

Colorado-based by way of The Bronx, NYC, New Era enthusiast Paul Rodriguez’s collection started off with humble beginnings that many of us can relate to – a few Yankees caps back in 2001. Today, his collection has grown to almost 300 hats! Paul’s hat stash has a lot of variety and includes team licensed, character/comic and streetwear hats. For our latest edition of Cap Talk, we connect with Adelaide, Australia-based New Era enthusiast Lewis Averillo-Singh, who has been collecting New Era caps since 2012. His first fitted was the “Monster Mouth” 59FIFTY, a cap that Lewis feels is “the definition of my style,” and the “gateway drug into the terror that is cap addiction.” In the short period of time that Lewis has been collecting, he has amassed almost 50 New Era caps, in a wide variety of licenses, designs, and styles. For our latest Cap Talk interview, we link up with BayArea-based New Era enthusiast/die-hard San Francisco Giants fan Ernesto Dominguez, AKA Rockin_NewEra84. He has been collecting caps since 2001, and is well-known for his signature hand gesture and, also, his On-Field collection. Something you may not know about Ernesto is that his collection isn’t just limited to On-Field caps, he once witnessed a 59FIFTY giving birth, and he has a degree is psychology! In his interview, Ernesto discusses how he became such a big Giants fan, and lets us in on some of the unique caps in his collection. Also, he sheds some light on the #CachuchaCrew of New Era enthusiasts, which he is part of and, as he does have a degree in psychology, Ernesto gives us his opinion of whether us cap collectors are obsessed, addicted, or just simply passionate about collecting hats! SFGrippy is a mysterious character in the cap-collecting community. Known for being a die-hard SF Giants fan and for his signature shot, where he shows off his caps, revealing only part of his face. (Except for those few times when he has shown his whole face….perhaps that wasn’t really him?) We tracked SFGrippy down at his secret Bay-Area hideout for a Cap Talk interview, where he decided to shed the mask and reveal more of his identity. Alex Mitchell, AKA SFGrippy, is San Francisco – born and raised, a craft beer drinker, baseball nut, Bay Area music playlist curator, and a New Era cap enthusiast. He has a degree in marketing, likes to walk his dog, eat delicious sandwiches, and BBQ meat for large groups of people. In his interview, Alex discusses why he decided to reveal more of his identity, how he became such a big SF Giants fan, what inspires his New Era cap collection, and more! Hunterflight On-field 59FIFTY Cap

Soaring to new heights straight from Australia is the “Hunterflight” On-Field 59FIFTY cap released by our friend, New Era cap connoisseur, Photographer and Graphic Designer Reagan Lee AKA MadHatterReags. This diamond from down under is inspired by the Australian Sulphur Crested Cockatoo for the Hunter region u21 Rugby team “Hunter Flight.” The cap features a white crown, black coloring on the back panels and visor, and a yellow under-visor. The attention to detail on this piece is incredible. The front is embroidered with the HunterFlight logo; the side flies the New Era flag, with the signature Reagan Lee logo on the back, and a small feather image on the under-visor. This cap also comes with limited edition Reagan Lee stickers, tags, and signed/numbered boxes. This release was limited to only 32 pieces, so you may have a tough time finding one. Hats off to MadHatterReags on all the hard work, time and effort he put into this cap… but next time you release a fitted, don’t forget to let us know so we can cop one too! For all those who managed to scoop up this cap, we can’t wait to see you #FlyYourOwnHunterflight proud!

Oakland Athletics MLB 2015 SE On-Field 59FIFTY Cap

Turn back the clock to the days of the Kansas City Athletics in this Oakland Athletics On-Field cap from the Special Events collection. The Special Events series of hats will be worn by MLB teams during the season to commemorate important moments and promotions. This caps takes it back to the 1950s and 1960s, when the team were known as the Kansas City Athletics, before they were moved to Oakland in 1968. Pay homage to the Athletics’ history and heritage.
