If it's a wool hat then New Era put those out for a very select number of teams around that timeframe. The flat batterman is the giveaway. Either Lids or the New Era shop had them for sale but only for a few days- some sort of limited run...

Anybody can list whatever they want for whatever price they want on the Bay, doesn't mean anyone will buy them. Some guy got really snippy with me when I posted the box and manual to an old Game Boy game for what he felt was an exorbitant amount and actually tried to argue with me, but a couple of days later someone else bought it for that price no problem.

As far as what their motives are for doing so, who knows? Personally, the Blue Jays is worth maybe $15 (doesn't even look to be in that good shape, would be better if it was nylon) and the Padres maybe $20-25.

that's fair enough.I was just curious to know if the caps are really that rare to justify $900 price tag. Also recently saw banned Indians cap with Wahoo logo and 42 badge on the side for $450 on ebay. Cant find the link so might've been sold.

I see another person selling some pretty basic releases for $70. Eventually they sit long enough that they become somewhat rare and some sell.

It's a sad and bad model because other sellers think that's the norm. $20-$30 for pretty much everything is the norm.

Looking at completed sold auctions, a Jackie Robinson wahoo 6 7/8 went for around $170. Nothing is selling at their asking rates lol. Most of the others at or below $150. That's still too crazy for me. I can buy 5 originals for that price.

Last year, there were multuple Yankees father's day caps then went for over $100. They were a bi+ch find after the initial run but I still didn't understand.

That is hilarious. Had I known this was going to happen, I would have bought several from Lids, in larger sizes.

The guy selling those caps for 100s of dollars is nuts. I'd pay $20 for that Padres cap.

I've sold a lot of caps over the last few years on eBay and I can confirm this is correct. These things are like cars, they depreciate in value 50% the minute you take the tags off them. Unless it's really old, really rare or in really good shape (preferably all three) you're looking at $10-15, tops. Even stuff I thought would get a lot of action (2011 TBTCs in excellent shape in, like, 2016; team-issued Seattle Rainiers cap from 2012) really didn't.

Jeez. I found an original version of this from the late 80s with no batterman for like 50 bucks a few years back. Anyone who would pay that much for a "throwback' version of any hat is a fool

Now it's down to $500. I might pay like $100 for a rare hat, any more than that and my wife would...violence.

In 2011 the Reds wore 1940s throwbacks at Dodger Stadium, and the blue and red caps were one of the only TBTCs from that year not to hit retail. Fast forward half a decade and someone here had a line on team-issued versions in my size for $75. I just couldn't do it, and don't regret it one bit.

There were actually several non-retail TBTCs that year besides the Reds IIRC. Brooklyn Dodgers (for the first two TBTC games) Boston Braves, 1940s Cubs (both against the Dodgers), Cubs 1910s pinstripe and Red Sox all white (both worn against each other) and the Padres 80s taco bell. It appeared that New Era was having a hard time keeping up with production. The Boston Braves and 40s Cubs worn against the Dodgers as well as the Brooklyn Dodgers caps for those two games weren't even made by New Era. A company that normally did hockey uniforms stepped in to provide the uniforms, and they had the caps made by Cal Custom Caps but with the hockey company's label on them. I eventually got most of those caps, some I got directly from the teams. Took a lot of work! I too snoozed on the Reds caps though, as well as the hockey company Brooklyn Dodgers. By the time the Dodgers faced the Reds for the TBTC game, New Era and Majestic finally got everything to them.
