| Leroy glad you like the cap. With the Astros TBTC they commissioned New Era to make hats exactly like they wore them in the time period. This includes correct sized logos, under brim colors and sans batterman. The for retail versions were terrible repros of this hats and all had the batterman logo. The correct on field versions were only made for the team. Since they are not wearing the 80's pullover uniforms again they sold the remaining stock of team issued back stock hats. |

The only problem here with all this is that the underbrim was actually green, not gray. Gray came later. I have an orgininal from that time. |

Technically they had both. The Astros re introduced the navy cap sans orange button for the road in 1980. From 1980-1985 the cap did have a green underbrim. In 1986 through the 1993 season the underbrim was gray.
This is my Astros circa 1987

| You are correct. sorry about that. Decided to go and pull out my cap (not sure how to upload photos yet) and noticed that my version is actually grey with an early batterman on the back!! Must have replaced my original from the early 80's version around 1992 or so and forgot. My inside tags look just like yours!...........PS batterman was added by MLB in 1992. That I'm postive on! |

Was it a universal addition? I seem to have vague recollection it was a staggered switch similar to the change from green to grey underbills.
1994 was the first year of all NE, grey underbill & batterman for all is my recollection but I am open to correction. _________________ It's always a better day when you're in a hat |

Not true, I have a maroon Phillies hat from the 1991 season I believe with the batterman. In 1992 the Phillies switched to their current uniforms. So my maroon hat is from 1991 or 1990. |

Thanks for the kind works, Adam! I haven't updated because I can't figure out the damn new user interface! It made me so frustrated that I haven't gone back for a while. I also have a lot of things going on in my life at the moment, but maybe when the baseball season ends I will trying working on it again. _________________ Check out my blog @ http://ballcapblog.blogspot.com *Updated 5/19/13* |

| Anyone have any word on the Giants 1924 TBTC Hats in the Bay Area? I see they are finally online at mlbshop.com, but I believe they are Chinese made so I'd rather try it on than ship it over here to find it doesn't fit right. I called ATT Park they do not have them and neither does my local Hat Club. Is Hat Club still expecting a shipment? |

Due to a shortage of material (ie the pinstriped fabric) NE has cancelled all other orders, based off what NE has indicated MLB Shop may be your last bite at the hat.
I say that and wouldn't be surprised if a full shipment shows up on Lids tomorrow since NE and Lids are BFF's... _________________ It's always a better day when you're in a hat |

I'm glad I saw you say that Guru, I've been slacking on getting that Giants cap so as soon as I read this I went over to MLB shop and got one! _________________ Check out my blog @ http://ballcapblog.blogspot.com *Updated 5/19/13* |

Certain teams must have had the batterman logo in 1991.

Very valid point XclickX. However I have learned that New Era took caps from 91 and sold them jn 92 with the glued on added batterman. There were a couple of caps that were discontinued in 92 like the Phillies you have and the pinwheel Expos I have that still have the glued batterman. This was New Eras way of eliminating old stock. The early runs of the 92 caps had a lot of glued batterman logos for the same reason. As the season went along and those caps sold most of the inventory was restocked with the embroidered batterman. _________________ My collection.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/adamleroy/sets |

I have seen caps from the first Diamond Collection run in 1988 and all variations until 1992 with the glued batterman. Must have been whatever they had in the warehouse. _________________ Check out my blog @ http://ballcapblog.blogspot.com *Updated 5/19/13* |
